Anna Denvil-Sommer
Research Scientist at the NCAS, University of Reading
I am a physical oceanographer, interested in ocean and climate modelling and application of Machine Learning for model improvement. I obtained my PhD in Physical Oceanography in November 2016 at the Laboratoire d’Océanographie et du Climat – Expérimentation et Approches Numériques (LOCEAN), Paris. Further, I had two postdoctoral research contracts, in the Laboratoire des sciences du climat et de l'environnement (2017-2018) and in the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique (2019), where I worked on the application of Machine Learning to reconstruct the ocean pCO2 (H2020, AtlantOS project) and to improve the ocean model meso-scale parameterisation using global ocean model NEMO (Project Hermès founded under the Make Our Planet Great Again). In January 2020 I joined the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, where I work in Dynamic Green Ocean Project. Using ML and observations I worked on improvement of the global biogeochemical ocean model PlankTOM.
In 2023 I started a position of research scientist at the NCAS at the University of Reading. I work on the development of high resolution ocean and climate models.

My other passion is drawing: digital drawing, pencils, watercolour. I like to combine science and art and give a way to my creativity. Some of my illustrations you can find dotted around my website.
